Each household unit is limited to 1,000 pounds of bulky waste per pickup. Any appliance containing CFC's/Freon (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, humidifiers, etc.) must have them properly removed by an authorized technician prior to collection and a removal certification sticker must be attached to the appliance. The Amherst Highway Department’s brush pickup crews will pick up large brush piles by appointment; please call 716.631.7117 to schedule your address for service. Have brush, logs and stumps (cut to less than 8 feet in length) piled for pickup before you call.
From April 1st to November 30th each year, all yard waste (grass, weeds, leaves, shrubs, and plant trimmings, limbs, and branches) will be collected separately from garbage, trash, and lumber. During this period, yard waste material should be in garbage cans with the lids removed, bushel baskets with solid bottoms and two manufactured handles, or 2-ply paper yard waste bags sold at local grocery or home remodeling stores.
From December 1st to March 31st any yard waste material will be collected with your garbage.

The Town of Amherst Highway Department and the Office of Refuse Control operate the Town of Amherst Organic Food Scrap Recycling Initiative. The Highway Department, located at 1042 North Forest Road will have 10 organic recycling totes on site where residents may bring their compostable food scraps, 7 days per week, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 pm. A secondary drop-off site is available to Town of Amherst residents at the Williamsville Farmers Market, on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., from mid-May until late-October. Residents can call (716.631.7119) or email (refuse@amherst.ny.us) the Office of Refuse Control with any questions or concerns.

NO CALL BACKS. Branches NO longer than three (3) feet in length. NO tree stumps. Brush must be stacked NEATLY and parallel with the curb. Cans can weigh no more than 50 pounds (no cans larger than 35 gallon). Small brush MUST be bundled or in a garbage can. All Grass Clippings and Yard Waste MUST be placed in a garbage can (not the Green Cart) and must be free of trash and refuse and animal fecal matter. The City of Buffalo will pick up leaves and yard waste from your residence, but they must be set out properly at the curb. LEAF AND YARD WASTE MUST BE IN CLEAR PLASTIC OR PAPER BAGS. Sticks and branches must be tied in bundles no longer than 4 ft in length and under 50 pounds. If they are longer than 4 ft, they must be cut down. The City collects yard waste and composts when time allows and during the 6 week period after the leaves fall. Residents can also call 311 for pickup.

The City of Buffalo has 4 municipal food scrap drop off sites. Of these sites, 3 are open during the regular business hours of local partners. One is a public drop off site available 24/7. Residents should collect food scraps in reusable containers which they can empty on-site. Residents are encouraged to store food scraps for a max of 1 week. Accepted materials include vegetable and fruit scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, nuts & egg shells. Scrap It! Curbside is a joint effort between the City of Buffalo and Farmer Pirates to offer free curbside compost pickup to City of Buffalo residents in all nine Common Council districts. Two (2) pieces of bulk trash for collection on their regular collection day. Bulk trash consists of those items that cannot be placed in the garbage tote, and yard debris placed in clear bags. Examples of bulk trash include furniture, appliances (refrigerator, microwave, stove), box of miscellaneous items, large toys, bundles of wood and brush, mattresses, box springs, carpet in 4 foot sections, etc. (For example: One couch and one 4 foot bundle of tree branches is considered two pieces of bulk trash). NO TV'S, COMPUTERS, TIRES, CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS OR HAZARDOUS WASTE ALLOWED AT CURB! City’s Large Bulk Waste collection only on the days that are designated for their Council District. Large Bulk Trash is limited to 4 cubic yards (12 feet long, 3 feet high, 3 feet wide). Material must be put out on the Sunday before the scheduled start and will be picked up some time that week. Residents can also arrange for a special Bulk Trash pickup by calling 311 and requesting a Pick and Pay. Pick and Pay start at $150 for a 12 feet long, 3 feet high, 3 feet wide pile.

Grass clippings must be placed in open containers or biodegradable bags not EXCEEDING 40 POUNDS, 6 bags/cans a week. Do not mix papers, plastics, or stone with the clippings. Plastic bags are not accepted. Pick up begins about April 15th each year.
Branches will be picked up throughout town on a rotating basis. Sanitation will start by collecting all items not exceeding 4′ in length, 40 pounds (tied in bundles), 6 bundle limit per week. Branches and shrubbery that exceed 4′ or 40 pounds, or has the roots on them, requires a call to the Highway Department to schedule a pickup. 686-3450 or Highway@tocny.org.
Large landscaping materials (such as tree trunks and stumps) must be removed by your landscaping contractor.
Leaves will be picked up as quickly as possible depending on the weather. It is the resident’s responsibility to get the leaves to the grass area next to the curb (aka the right of way). Leaves should NOT BE IN THE STREET and no brush or branches should be mixed into the leaves. Only leaves located in the right of way will be picked up by the Highway Department (716)686-3450.
Approximately November 15th each year we stop composting. Therefore yard waste, including leaves, should be placed in heavy duty plastic bags and put in your garbage tote. If the bags will not fit inside the tote, you may place them next to the tote and the Sanitation Department will pick them up.

When placing brush out for pickup, branches are not to exceed ten inches (10”) in diameter and eight feet (8’) in length. Cut ends are to be facing the street and piled as neatly as possible. All bushes, trees, etc. must have the stumps and/or root balls removed and placed separately from the brush pile. Roots and Stumps are picked up usually once a week and should be placed in a separate pile as they cannot go through the chipper. If you require a pick up, please call the Public Works Department (716‐683‐5700) and you will be placed on a list.
The Village of Depew does not pick up grass clippings, waste products, railroad ties, bags of leaves, small branches and trimmings or any building debris.
During the fall season, our leaf picker will pick up leaves. Leaves should be raked to the Right of Way area near the curb into piles.

Large trash are items that would not normally fit in the tote due to size, such as mattresses (must be wrapped in plastic) and boxsprings, recliner, table. No white goods, electronics, electrical goods or bags. Carpet and wood must be cut down to four (4) foot sections and bundled, each bundle weighing no more than 60 pounds. 3 bundles of carpet is considered one large item. Sleeper sofas must have the metal bed frame and mattress removed. Windows/Mirrors must have all glass broken out of them. The framing is to be broken down and bundled in four (4) foot sections. All doors must be cut in half to meet the four (4) foot restriction. All bags of garbage must be in your tote.
For Disposal of refrigerators/freezers (fee applies), hot water tanks, dishwashers, stoves, washers/dryers - A resident MUST CALL the Treasurer/Clerk's Office at 683-7451 for a pickup. Refrigerator/freezer doors are to be removed. Items are to be left at the curb after their pickup has been paid for and scheduled with the Clerk's Office. Items will be picked up by the Department of Public Works.
Portable A/C units (fee applies) and microwaves and dehumidifiers (no fee) are drop off only at 200 Rutherford Pl during office hours of 7:30 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday. There is a fee of $15 for disposal of Refrigerators, Freezers, and AC Units. You must pay the fees at the Village of Depew Treasurer/Clerk's Office during normal office hours of 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. You will be provided a pick-up date (non-portable units only) at time of payment. Please attach your paid receipt to you appliance as proof of payment for the pickup.

Bulk pickup occurs on your service day or the day following your service day. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners must have refrigerant (freon) removed by a certified technician and the unit stickered as ‘Freon removed” with the doors removed from refrigerators and freezers. Carpeting must be rolled in lengths of 4 feet or less, taped securely, and no wider than 18 inches. Large items must be of size that can easily be handled by two employees.

The department normally has two crews move through the town from March through October collecting residential brush. In the winter months, we will collect Christmas trees that are placed at the curb, but they must be free of all decorations including tinsel, wires, and lights. In the fall we do curbside leaf collection using leaf vacuums; the leaf piles must be free of any foreign objects to prevent personal injury to the employees and damage to the equipment.

The Village of Orchard Park has introduced a food scrap drop off pilot program in partnership with Farmer Pirates, running from Jun 15th 2026 to June 14th 2027. Collect your food scraps at home and drop them off at the Department of Public Works (open M-F, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm) at least once every two weeks. Residents of the Village of Orchard Park can sign up at no fee on the Orchard Park Pilot Program website.

On the first full week of the month, Waste Management will collect up to 2 items on collection day without purchased stickers. Residents are responsible for the licensed removal and disposal of all refrigerants from applicable white goods. Items that can be picked up on Bulk Pick-Up Day include: Chair, Couch, Mattress/Box Spring (count as 1 item), extra garbage bags, etc.

Other lawn/garden debris, such as leaves, dead plants, etc., is to be placed inside garbage tote. Leaf pick-up throughout Autumn. During this time, collect your leaves on the space between the curb and sidewalk.

Household items that include furniture, mattresses, box springs, etc. will be picked up by waste Management monthly. The bulk pickup day for the Village of Sloan will be the fourth full week of the month and is posted on the sign in front of Village Hall. All mattresses, box springs, and toilets must be bagged or completely wrapped to protect workers when picking up.

Brush is picked up on normal collection day, or as soon as possible from your garbage day. Separate brush / limbs into piles with butts in the same direction, not to exceed 6” in diameter and 6 ft. in length. Place stumps and large diameter limbs at least 2 ft. from bulk trash. Keep brush way from hydrants, trees, poles, vent pipes and shut offs. Fall leaf collection occurs from Columbus Day to the 1st heavy snowfall. Rake leaves out into the street the same day your garbage is picked up. They will be picked up the day following your normal garbage collection day.

Yard waste is collected for our community composting site on 500 Mineral Springs Road every week during the period starting the 1st week in May and to the 1st week in December. Residents should arrange to have their yard waste at the curbside the night before or before 7:00 am regular garbage day in paper bags or open reusable containers (garbage can without lid, bushel basket, plastic container. Containers should not weigh over 50 pounds, and we ask that you do not place rocks, metal or household garbage in with your yard waste.)

As an additional service to Village residents, DPW picks up large items on a routine basis. During the months of March-October pickup on Village streets occurs 2nd and 4th Mondays. Please have items at the curb prior to 7 am. Appointments during these months are not necessary. Residents may leave brush and branches for recycling, electronics such as TV’s, and metal items such as appliances.
