Karen Rybicki, who most recently served as First Deputy Commissioner of Family Independence in the Erie County Department of Social Services, was named Interim Commissioner of ECDSS effective June 20, 2024.
Rybicki, who has worked in the department for nearly 30 years in various roles, including more than a decade in an Executive Staff role, takes over as the Commissioner following the departure of Dr. Marie Cannon from the title. Dr. Cannon was recently hired as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Action Organization (CAO) of Western New York. Cannon had served as the Commissioner of ECDSS since March 2018.
