Be Aware of COVID-19 Test Kit Scams!

The Erie County Office of Consumer Protection wants to remind you to be vigilant!

Have you gotten robocalls, text messages, or emails offering COVID-19 tests? Scammers continue to sell fake and unauthorized at-home COVID-19 test kits in exchange for your personal or medical information.

Do your due diligence when purchasing online; over-the-counter or at-home tests are available for sale around the U.S. at many reputable and trustworthy retailers and pharmacies.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection: reminds us that the legitimate government website to claim the free at-home test kits for your household is https://www.covidtests.gov/

The order link will direct you to a United States Postal Service page to complete the free at-home test kit request form. The form only asks for your name and address. It does not require entering a social security number, credit card number, health insurance number, or personally identifiable information. If you reach a site that does, it is a RED FLAG, and you should be aware of a possible scam.

As of 5/18/2022, the third round of FREE at-home tests has been made available by the Federal Government.

Testing is one step you can take to protect yourself, friends, family, and others from COVID-19!
