What is PrEP?

  • PrEP (Pre-exposure Prophylaxis) is a safe and effective medication that can greatly reduce your risk of HIV infection.
  • PrEP can be either pills or shots (injections)

What is PEP?

  • PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) means taking a medicine to prevent HIV after possible exposure. PEP must be started within 72 hours of a potential exposure to HIV.

Paying for PrEP

In NYS, PrEP is covered by Medicaid and most health insurance plans with minimal/no payment for medicine, lab work, or clinic visits.

If you are uninsured or underinsured, you may qualify for PrEP assistance through PrEP-AP, operated through the NYS Department of Health.

We will be happy to discuss this at time of visit.
