Anthony B. Targia serves as an Assistant County Attorney as the Senior Litigator. Over 20 years of extensive experience in civil litigation across an array of practice areas makes Mr. Targia well suited to represent the County of Erie. He graduated from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1997. His undergraduate studies were completed at Canisius College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1992, and then continued his post graduate work in Secondary Education obtaining a New York State Teachers’ Association Certificate of Eligibility in 1994.
Mr. Targia was a trial attorney in private practice until accepting his current position in 2011. He was a partner at Chelus, Herdzik, Speyer & Monte, P.C., where he specialized in defending civil lawsuits on behalf of various municipalities, insurance companies, individuals, and self-insured businesses. Mr. Targia was honored with the distinction of a Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating of AV® Preeminent™ in 2013.
Mr. Targia currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Charles S. Desmond American Inn of Court, and also serves on the Board of Directors for the Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce from 2008 to 2010.
Mr. Targia considers it a privilege to be a lawyer and practice law as an Assistant County Attorney. Having the opportunity to work in local government and represent every department of Erie County and all the challenges that brings, drew Mr. Targia to accept a position as Assistant County Attorney. He believes that preparation and diligence are integral to success in any endeavor and that achieving superior results for the County of Erie relies on this principle. Hard work and persistence are the cornerstones to securing the best possible result.
