Foster Care
When families are unable or unwilling to meet the minimum standards of safety for their children, the Erie County Department of Social Services and Erie County Family Court work together to help support child safety. There are times, due to safety concerns, children need to be placed in foster care, with an appropriate relative or with fictive kin until the safety concerns are alleviated.
The Erie County Department of Social Services Home Finding team is responsible for recruiting, certifying, supporting and retaining foster families who can meet the needs and well-being of children placed in their care. It is the goal of Erie County Department of Social Services to keep youth connected to their culture, community and family. Reunification with parents remains Erie County’s primary goal whenever it is safe and appropriate.
