Preparing Field Grown Trees for Transplanting ~ Chestnut Ridge Park ~

Location: Chestnut Ridge - Chestnut Ridge Casino

Join the Erie County Bureau of Forestry and learn how to prepare trees for transplanting. This workshop is part of the Community Forestry Partnership Project and will provide 3 hours of hands-on training to learn about dormant tree identification, phenology, tree reproduction and survival strategies, transplanting techniques, root pruning, bare-rooting trees, and preparing for transplanting.
  • Meeting Location: Newton Road parking lot, Chestnut Ridge Park Click here for a map to the meeting location
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Elevation: Some small inclines
  • Surface Description: asphalt/cement, grass and dirt trail.
  • Equipment Needed: Proper clothing and footwear for conditions. Tools will be provided.
  • Other: No dogs please; no stroller/wheelchair accessibility.

Transplanting Trees into the Nursery

10am

Location: Bureau of Forestry - Erie County Bureau of Forestry office

Join the Erie County Bureau of Forestry and learn how to transplant trees into the nursery. This workshop is part of the Community Forestry Partnership Project and will provide 3 hours of hands-on training to learn about various methods to grow trees in the nursery for future planting projects. Methods include soil, light, and water considerations, potting, air pruning beds, gravel beds, and raised beds.
  • Meeting Location: Erie County Bureau of Forestry office Click this link for a map to the meeting location

  • Elevation: essentially flat
  • Surface Description: compacted stone and millings
  • Equipment Needed: Proper clothing and footwear for conditions. Tools will be provided.
  • Other: No dogs please; stroller/wheelchair accessible.

Seneca Bluffs Walk and Talk

10:30am - 12pm

Location: Seneca Bluffs Natural Habitat Park - Meeting Location: Main Parking Area

Join Erie County's Seneca Bluffs Project Manager to learn about the $2.4 million dollars of green infrastructure and accessibility improvements to be invested in the park in the next five years. We will also walk the trail and learn about the habitat the park provides.
 
Accessibility: Mostly Flat, Not wheelchair accessible but partly walker accessible.
Length: 0.75 mile walk
Dogs: On-leash dogs welcome.
Restrooms: None
Parking: Plenty of on site parking
Cancelation Policy: If there is rain predicted for this event the we will delay the event to the afternoon. We will notify you via email and phone if the event is being delayed. If there is a travel ban or a severe storm predicted, the event will be canceled.
Food Option: The closest restaurant is The Riverfield 865.

  • 9AM - 10AM: Low-stimulation and accessible hour for individuals requiring accessibility assistance and a low-stimulation environment to visit Santa! To reserve a visit during this hour, please contact the Office of People with Disabilities at (716) 858-6215.

Enter at the main entrance of Chestnut Ridge Park and parking will be available in the main lot only. Parking is limited, so come early and prepare to wait for an open spot, if the lot is closed.
