Location: Como Lake - Meet at the Como Lake Lighthouse

  • Como Lake Park is characterized by the Como Lake Lighthouse overlooking Como Lake, a man-made lake on Cayuga Creek. This lovely lake is a great place to learn how to fish. Join the Park Rangers as they do their “Fryday” Fishing program on a Saturday. This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of Fishing.

Creek Walk- Sprague Brook 7/23/22

Location: Sprague Brook - Bridge over Sprague Brook- Past Shelter #4 and before Shelter#5/6 Area

Starting at the Sprague Brook Bridge and Lot, we will walk downstream discussing aquatic ecosystems and stream ecology (substrates, soils, rocks & erosion, water/nutrient filtering, water storage, dissolved oxygen, acidity, trophic relationships), the roles of aquatic plants and animals (natives and invasives, crayfish, fish spawning and habitat, water-dependent insects, mammals, herps,  etc.), and human and natural occurrences that impact water quality, stream biology, and flow dynamics (flooding, foresting, farming, disturbance).

 

IMPORTANT NOTES: Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind getting wet

History Tour- Akron Falls Park (7/30/2022)

Location: Akron Falls - Meet at the Tennis Courts

  • As one of our Heritage Parks, Akron Falls Park has a long, interesting, and mysterious history. Join one of our Park Rangers to get a snapshot of this history, from important events that happened near the park and maybe even why the park is famous. The Tour will end with learning all about Murder Creek while viewing one of Erie County’s best sights, Akron Falls.
