Dress for the weather and conditions as we will be hiking on and off trail in search of spring ephemerals. There are no public facilities available on site.

Brisk Spring Hike ~ Eighteen Mile Creek ~ Sunday, April 6, 2025 - Location: Eighteen Mile Creek - Meeting Location: Eighteen Mile Creek Park – Parking Lot on South Creek Road Eighteen Mile Creek County Park has several trails. Come with Rangers Roy and Austin for a 3-mile hike in Spring conditions. We will go over some preparation and safety basics before heading out. This hike will likely be easy, a good first hike. Tall waterproof boots would be best. · Meeting Location: Eighteen Mile Creek Park – Parking Lot on South Creek Road · Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours · Distance: Approximately 3 miles · Elevation: Significant elevation changes · Trail Conditions: Potential for cool spring temps and muddy trails. Will be walking wooded trails · Equipment Needed: Come equipped with your 10 essentials, good waterproof boots, layers of clothing and poles if you use them · Other: No stroller/wheelchair accessibility, dogs are welcome on a leash! |

Woodland Birding ~Franklin Gulf Park ~ Saturday, April 12, 2025 - Location: Franklin Gulf - Meeting Location: Franklin Gulf County Park, Larkin Road Parking Lot Join Ranger Nikki for a woodland walk at Franklin Gulf Park looking for inland birds migrating back into our area after this long winter! Bring your binoculars and bird identification guides as we walk, look and listen for some of our returning bird species! All birding levels welcome and extra binoculars are available! · Meeting Location: Franklin Gulf County Park, Larkin Road Parking Lot · Duration: 1-2 hours · Elevation: Hilly, will be taking a few different trails throughout park · Distance: 1-2 miles · Surface Description: Dirt trail, there may be exposed roots, may be muddy or snowy/icy · Equipment Needed: proper shoes, walking sticks (if you would like), binoculars (we do have some extras that can be borrowed), birding identification guide · Other: No stroller/wheelchair accessibility |

Sprague Brook Bioblitz: A Citizen Science Adventure! Saturday, April 26, 2025 - Location: Sprague Brook - Meeting Location: Shelter 2/3 Parking Lot (by new playground) Join Ranger Adam for another exciting "BioBlitz" at Sprague Brook Park, where you'll become a citizen scientist for a day! This hands-on outdoor education event invites participants of all ages to explore the park’s diverse ecosystems, identifying and documenting local wildlife, plants, and fungi. Spring Reservoir Exploration ~ Akron Falls Park ~ Sunday, May 18, 2025 - Location: Akron Falls - Meeting Location: Akron Falls Park – Shelter 10 Wherever land meets water there are likely to be interesting processes and living things. Come with Ranger Roy to look at what is happening at the edges of the Akron Falls Park reservoir in Spring conditions. We will try to get a look at living things at several different size scales and learn about their life cycles in the springtime. · Meeting Location: Akron Falls Park – Shelter 10 · Duration: 1-1.5 hrs. · Elevation/Trail Conditions: Event held near reservoir on a flat grassy area · Other: Limited stroller/wheelchair accessible, dogs are welcome on a leash. Ranger Meet and Greet w/ S’mores! ~ Sprague Brook Park ~ Saturday, May 24, 2025 - Location: Sprague Brook - Meeting Location: Upper camping loop between loops A and B Come hangout with Rangers Greg and Austin at Sprague Brook Park and learn about the Ranger Program! Bring your camping or ecological questions and pick the brains of your Erie County Park Rangers - Roast marshmallows, talk about your favorite camping gear, learn how to start a fire and more. This is a meet and great event so come and go as you please! No registration is required.
